1665 Jamaica passes under the English yoke.
1783 Major landmark in the history of the current Ethiopian, George Liele founded the Ethiopian Baptist Church.
1831 Sam Sharpe Rebellion.
1834 Abolition slavery.
1838 The abolition becomes effective.
1845 Indian (India) settled on the island to work.
1860 The grandréveil religious Great Revival.
1865 Revolt under the leadership of Paul Bogle in Morant Bay.
August 17, 1887 Birth Marcus Garvey.

1998 Death of Jah Rastafari Elders Ras Stone and Sam Brown.
1999 Indicted in 1991 for unlawful possession of cannabis, Benny toves Guerrero (aka Ras Iyah Ben) was acquitted of the charges against him. The Supreme Court of Guam (United States) have recognized the ganja as a component on the same basis as the wine and bread in the Eucharist ceremony. The arrest of the accused thus constitutes a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution guaranteeing freedom of conscience and religion.
February 1999 The father of reggae, Mauritian Kaya is murdered in prison following his incarceration for illegal consumption of cannabis. According to the official version of the local authorities, the singer would Rasta himself administered the fatal injuries ........
